A self-confessed "scorned" and "bitter" US woman has used her ex-husband's extra-marital affair as a quirky hook to draw attention to the sale of the former family home.

Elle Zober, 37, put a sign on her front lawn of her Portland, Oregon home, informing passers-by that the home was on the market because her husband had an affair with a younger woman, KPTV reports.

"Husband Left Us for a 22 Year Old... House For Sale by scorned, slightly bitter, newly single OWNER," the sign reads.

"Adulterers need not apply."

Ms Zober said her mum gave her the idea.

"But I reworked her sign because it wasn't very nice. It was a little less PG," she said.

Her marriage of 10 years broke down in April after Ms Zober found text messages from a college student on her husband's phone.

However, rather than being angry about having his affair exposed Mr Zober supported the sign, believing it will help draw attention to the home.

"I spoke to him about it and he was like 'it's hilarious, it's genius, I think it will make people stop and look at the house'," Ms Zober said.

She has also had the sign made into fridge magnets, which she sells online for $5.
