He may be running to be the next occupant of the White House, but it seems Mitt Romney's back-up plan is a move to a just as glamorous mansion.
The former governor of Massachussetts and multimillionaire has planned a California beach house which, if approved, would include a multi-level garage and an elevator specifically for his cars.
News website Politico reported Mr Romney would renovate a 76-year-old home in the exclusive San Diego suburb of La Jolla.
It's hardly the image Mr Romney needs as he struggles to convince voters that he's connected to the average American.
The renovation would include the construction of a basement larger than the existing house's living quarters, in addition to a split-level, four-car garage.
The upgrades to the home are so significant the former merchant banker has paid a lobbyist more than $20,000 to push for the project to be approved.
Despite its size, Mr Romney and his family would not be living in the home full-time. He already owns a condominium in Boston and a lake house in New Hampshire.
With an estimated net worth of about $200 million, Mr Romney would be one of the wealthiest presidents of all time.
