Hong Kong stocks rose 0.85 per cent on Thursday, a third straight gain and in line with a global advance amid hopes for stimulus measures by the European and US central banks.
The benchmark Hang Seng Index gained 157.76 points to 18,678.29 on turnover of HK$47.66 billion ($A6.22 billion).
But Chinese shares closed down 0.71 per cent. The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index, which covers both A and B shares, lost 16.42 points to 2,293.13 on turnover of 59.6 billion yuan.
