Australia's richest and poorest postcodesOne pocket of Sydney's eastern suburbs earn close to nine times more than those who live in the country's poorest area.

Brisbane's iconic RiverWalk is a step closer to being rebuilt with John Holland Group announced as the builder.

The RiverWalk was being used by about 3000 people daily before it was washed away in the devastating floods of 2011.

Brisbane City Council and the federal government announced on Friday that John Holland has won the $72 million reconstruction contract.

The federal government is providing $54 million in funding over two years, while the Queensland government will cover the remaining $18 million.

The new walkway is expected to be completed in mid-2014.
