UGL secures $100m mine contract

Engineering firm UGL has secured a contract worth almost $100 million to carry out work at BHP Billiton's Jimblebar mine in Western Australia.

Under the terms of the contact announced on Wednesday, UGL will work on the structural, mechanical and piping works at the iron ore mine.

UGL managing director Richard Leupen said the contract continues the company's strong relationship with the iron ore industry.

"This is an important win for UGL and we look forward to successfully contributing to the expansion of this iron ore development in Western Australia," Mr Leupen said in a statement.

Since its beginnings as a small engineering construction firm in Western Australia called United Construction, UGL has diversified its interests to include operations and maintenance,and property.

UGL shares were four cents higher at $12.87 at 1118 AEST.
