President Vladimir Putin has signed accords finalising Russia's membership of the World Trade Organisation, more than 18 years after the country applied to join, his office says.

Russia has thus become one of the last economic giants to join the global trade body, 10 years after China became a member.

The move was previously approved by Russia's parliament.

WTO membership compels Russia to open its market further, while its key trading partners hope the move will ease business transactions.
