Ports and rail operator Asciano has confirmed its forecast for higher earnings in the second half of the 2011/2012 financial year.

The company posted earnings before interest and tax (EBIT) of $295 million in the six months to December 31, and on Friday said EBIT in the six months to June 30 would exceed that.

Asciano is due to release its full year results on August 22.
