ANZ Banking Group is believed to be poised to announced another round of hefty job cuts.

The Finance Sector Union said its representatives, during a meeting on Monday, had been told about "further substantial job cuts" at the bank.

The union's national secretary, Leon Carter, is due to outline the scale of the expected cuts during a media conference in Melbourne at 1300 AEDT.

ANZ in January announced 130 jobs would be axed as part of an aggressive cost-cutting program.

The union says it fears the bank will end up shedding hundreds of jobs from its 24,000-strong workforce in Australia.

ANZ has flagged that several hundreds of jobs will go from the bank's domestic operations in the coming six months.
