The Australian dollar rose by more than 0.7 of a US cent after the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) left the cash rate on hold at 4.25 per cent at its February board meeting.

At 1432 AEDT, the currency was at 107.79 US cents, compared with 107.06 US cents just before the RBA announced its decision at 1430 AEST on Tuesday.

The Australian dollar closed at 107.25 US cents on Monday.

Thirteen of the 14 economists surveyed by AAP predicted the central bank board would cut the cash rate.
