Uranium explorer Marathon Resources is suing the South Australian government for banning exploration at a tenement near Arkaroola in the Northern Flinders Ranges.

Marathon started legal action in the Supreme Court seeking to have declared invalid the SA government's proclamation excluding Arkaroola from the operation of the mining act.

The explorer is also seeking orders requiring the Mining Registrar to register mineral claims lodged by Marathon in respect of Exploration Licence (EL) 4355.

Marathon said, in a statement on Friday, that it had provided information about expenditure on EL4355 at the government's request and the government had said it would consider compensation for Marathon.

But Marathon had not received any proposal in the 112 days since the government decided to ban exploration at Arkaroola.
