A legal stoush between George Calombaris and Mr Whippy over the name of a dessert at the MasterChef star's restaurant has been settled for $4000.

Mr Whippy began legal action in the Federal Magistrates Court last September after Calombaris named a $9.50 dessert in his Kew eatery "Mrs Whippi".

Mr Whippy owner Stan Gordon sent Calombaris a letter saying the brand name had "no reputation in a high-profile restaurant run by a celebrity chef".

The case has been settled with the $4000 payout being donated to the Royal Children's Hospital.

"It was the right outcome. I would never instigate legal action to make money," Mr Gordon told News Ltd.

Calombaris has now renamed the dessert "Old Fashioned Soft Serve" on the restaurant's online menu.
