The Australian dollar is more than half a US cent higher on strong growth data from the United States.

At 0630 AEDT on Monday, the local unit was trading at 103.68 US cents, up from 103.12 US cents on Friday.

The US economy grew at a pace of two per cent in the third quarter - higher than economists' expectations of a 1.8 per cent rise - according to official data released on Friday.

This was mainly driven by consumer and defence spending and home building.
