FN Arena Broker Call Headlines - 9 May 2013
MAY 09, 2013
Citi rates as Sell (5) - The broker admits the acquisition of Trust Company ((TRU)) looks attractive on paper, with some meaningful EPS accretion in FY14-15 more than possible. On the other hand, Citi is concerned about the distraction it may provide and the fact Trust is a lower growth, lower multiple business. With the stock still looking expensive, the Sell, forecasts and $38.00 price target are maintained. More

FN Arena Broker Call Headlines - 8 May 2013
MAY 08, 2013
Macquarie rates as Neutral (3) - Perpetual has made a bid for The Trust Company ((TRU)) which, if successful, would deliver a conservative 2% earnings accretion rising to 3.5% in FY16 if synergies are achieved, the broker suggests. The broker has not altered its forecasts and notes that is currently well priced on current equity inflows, suggesting another leg up in the rally is needed to drive the stock higher. Neutral retained on a $40 target. More

Takeovers can be a tricky and drawn-out process as financial services outfit Equity Trustees (ASX: EQT) is discovering. On Friday the Trust Company (ASX: TRU) responded to Equity Trustees’ takeover proposal, releasing its Target Statement and recommending shareholders reject the offer. Trust Company’s board did acknowledge the potential benefits of combining the two businesses but still rejected the offer on the grounds that Equity Trustees would be underpaying at the current bid. The market seems to agree and is betting a higher bid may eventuate, with Trust Company’s shares rising after the rejection.
