The son and future daughter-in-law of convicted Ponzi scammer Bernie Madoff are finding it hard to land a New York apartment because of their familial connection to the notorious former businessman.
Andrew Madoff, 45, and his fiance Catherine Hooper are offering up to $US20,000 a week for apartments in Manhattan but have been repeatedly knocked back by building owners, the New York Post reports.
The pair are reported to be applying for properties in Ms Hooper's name to avoid the connection to Bernie Madoff, who was arrested in 2008 over a $65 billion Ponzi scheme — considered the largest financial fraud in history.
But the couple has reportedly been rejected five times after the connection was established.
"My owners would never, ever rent to him," a broker told the New York Post. "They will go through a lot of rejections."
Bernie Madoff is currently serving a 150-year jail term in a North Carolina prison.
Madoff’s family have always denied knowledge of their father’s illegal activities.
