The Australian share market has closed higher ahead of the US presidential election and an interest rate decision by Australia's central bank.

At the close on Monday, the benchmark S&P/ASX200 index was up 14 points, or 0.31 per cent, at 4,474.1, while the broader All Ordinaries index was up 10.3 points, or 0.22 per cent, at 4,493.6.

On the ASX 24, the December share price index futures contract was 14 points higher at 4,459, with 25,136 contracts traded.
